Weekly Bulletin – July 1 2017

THE PAST WEEK

We have now officially notified Lancing Parish Council that we will not be requiring the room at the Parish Hall that we were considering for use as a shack, due to access restrictions. The committee are actively seeking an alternative.

Last Wednesday evening Andrew, G1VUP demonstrated assembly of an HB9CV antenna for the 4 metre band, assisted by Alan, G4GNX who drove the club’s new antenna analyser and associated software. Andrew explained how the Gamma Match was applied and Bob, G3VXJ gave a very good explanation of why the Gamma Match is necessary and how it works. Roger, G4TNT also assembled his own HB9CV for 2 metres. The proceedings were recorded by webcam and by connecting the analyser to a laptop computer, we were able to project the images onto the ‘big screen’ along with a short video presentation of the basics of the Rig Expert AA-600 Antenna Analyser.

VHF DXers are reminded that today (Saturday) and tomorrow is VHF NFD. Even if you aren’t a contestant, please consider getting on the air and giving a few points away.

FINALÉ

The club’s Rig Expert AA-600 aerial analyser has proved invaluable in setting up my 4 metre groundplane, especially as my own analyser doesn’t cover 70 MHz.
I should be finished with it in a week or so (weather permitting), then it will be available for use by other members. Please contact Andy, M6RFE if you want to borrow it.

73,

Alan. G4GNX
