Amateur radio in West Sussex - Training, Exams, Contests and Special Event Stations

Weekly Bulletin – December 7 2018

THE PAST WEEK

Last Wednesday’s meeting was mainly given over to Graham, G4FNL who has courageously offered to setup a special event station at Sussex University, using the callsign GB5WOR. Phil, G4UDU offered to setup the callsign and logging etc., which he has already done. There was a lot of enthusiasm for the event and many members (of those who attended) are willing to take part. Further details will appear on our website and you can volunteer direct to Graham, if you haven’t done so already.

It was fairly clear from the previous meeting that most members favour Tuesdays as a new meeting day. The Doodle Poll setup to collect votes has confirmed this: Votes for Mondays – 2. Votes for Tuesdays – 38.

We’re now in the final throes of setting up the paperwork etc., for the new venue at Sea Cadets HQ (TS Vanguard) and we will be moving there on Tuesday 15th January. From then on, Lions Hall, Lancing will be permanently closed to us.

We’ve also had confirmation from the Sea Cadets that the masts supporting the HF dipole are in good shape, but it’s likely that the co-ax will need replacing. Once we’ve made the move we can discuss what we want to do about antennas and the ‘shack’ itself.

It’s interesting to note that almost the entire current membership voted, which is encouraging.
