Amateur radio in West Sussex - Training, Exams, Contests and Special Event Stations

Weekly Bulletin – March 8 2020

THE PAST WEEK

In preparation for this week’s meeting, last Tuesday we went through the KPA500 Kit Installation Manual, piece by piece on the projector screen. From comments, some members hadn’t realised what might be involved and were pleasantly surprised. Hopefully this week there will be a good attendance of those wanting to do some hands-on installation and those who just want to watch.

Spaceweather.com reports “A ‘RADIO-ACTIVE’ SUNSPOT FROM THE NEXT SOLAR CYCLE: A new sunspot is emerging in the sun’s southern hemisphere. Its magnetic polarity identifies it as a member of new Solar Cycle 25. Although the spot is relatively small, it is also dynamic, and has produced one of the first loud shortwave radio bursts of the new solar cycle”. Let’s hope that this really is the start of an upward trend in better HF propagation.

FINALÉ

I expect that most of us are fed-up with the media scaremongering and miss-reporting of the Corona virus. That said, we should follow good advice and wash our hands frequently. If the situation does worsen, we make a decision not to meet for a while, but that has not happened yet and hopefully won’t. We’ll keep you informed via this bulletin and the WADARC website – http://www.wadarc.org.uk
