Amateur radio in West Sussex - Training, Exams, Contests and Special Event Stations

Weekly Bulletin – January 12 2020

THE PAST WEEK

Graham and Roger continued work on the shack last Tuesday and the timber framework round the new Tambour Doors is complete. Just some painting to do to tidy it all up. Unfortunately, due to adverse traffic (bloody road works again) Bryan was unable to get to the Club, so the door locks are not yet complete.

Members who could get to TS Vanguard enjoyed a discussion about the Club’s future programme of events, with several useful ideas put forward, and some suggestions for talks. However, we do still need more people to come forward and either offer a talk/demo or put someone else’s name forward that is willing to help.

We also discussed the possibility of contacting past members to see if they will re-join and we will invite the Sea Cadets to one or two of our future talks, to attempt to recruit some new members and hopefully train some new licensees.

Please put the word round as much as possible that Phil, G4UDU will be giving a talk on Flex radio and other SDR, with a practical demonstration, on Tuesday 21st January. Guests/non-members are welcome.

FINALÉ

According to reports, the Sun Spot Cycle seems to be changing (very slightly) for the better. Well worth checking the bands whenever you can and more importantly, call CQ a few times. If you don’t call CQ and nobody else does, we get back to the “licensed listener” syndrome and everyone assumes that the bands are dead!
