WADARC Mailing List A new WADARC Mailing List (or Email List) has been set up for the use of Members. The object of this mailing list (sometimes called a "Reflector") is to keep members informed of Club events and provide a medium for discussion between members in a timely way. Members who are subscribed to the WADARC list will receive emails from the list of any emails that are posted to the list by other subscribers. (There are options that can be selected for receiving emails - more about this later). The WADARC mailing list, hosted by mailman.qth.net, has been provided as an alternative to the earlier "Yahoogroups" system. Yahoogroups has been found to be rather slow and has occasionally "lost" postings. In contrast, the Mailman system appeares to be very fast and efficient. Also, it is hosted by QTH.NET (part of QSL.NET) and is provided by amateurs, for amateurs. Most members have been automatically subscribed to the WADARC mailing list but some members may not have, either because they have no email addess listed in the 2007 WADARC Callbook or because an email sent to the address in the Callbook was returned as "Undeliverable". This normally indicates that they have changed their email address. Subscribing to the WADARC Mailing ListIn order to subscribe to the WADARC list, there are two ways:
There will be a slight delay, (hopefully less than a day) while the List Moderator accepts your subscription. This is so that checks can be made to avoid "Spammers". (There has already been one spam message that was posted for the list.) Changing your Membership InformationIn order to change the Membership Information, it is necessary log in to your account. To do this, at the bottom of the Info page, (http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/wadarc) in the WADARC Subscribers section, click the Unsubscriber or Edit button. (You can put your email address in box or leave it blank). Follow the options (Log-in, Unsubscribe or Remind( on the next page. If you have forgotten your password, click the Remind button and a new password will be emailed to you. When logged in, a series of options are available for changing the Membership information. Make any changes you require and then click the Submit button at the bottom. There is also a Log-out at the top of the page when you have finished. As an alternative for changing Membership Information via the web, an email interface is available. For further information about this interface, send an email to with the word "help" in the subject line with a blank message body. A message will be returned giving the "Help" file with details of the commands that are available. Posting to the WADARC ListOnce subscribed, it is very easy to post to the WADARC list: just send an email to The object of the List, as mentioned above, is to keep members informed of Club events and provide a medium for discussion between members in a timely way. However, we would ask members to read the QTH.NET Acceptable Use Policy (see http://mailman.qth.net/miniaup.html), before posting to the WADARC list, for information. Currently, when a reply is sent to a message that has been posted to the WADARC list, it will be automatically addressed to the original sender. This is the recommended action, and is designed to cut down on the amount of internet traffic generated. If you want a reply to be sent to all subscribers, then remember to re-address the reply. Also, please remember that the Mailman software will strip off any attachments from posted messages. This is so that any viruses or email worms (if any get through) will not be propagated. More information is available at http://mailman.qth.net and the List Posting Guide is at http://mailman.qth.net/subscribers.htm. Mail ArchivesAnother feature of the Mailman system is the fact that all messages posted to the WADARC list are archived, in a searchable format. Messages can be accessed, sorted by Thread, Subject, Author or Date. The default is for the archive to be divided into months. The final option is for each month of the archive to be downloaded as a zip file. The archives are available at http://mailman.qth.net/pipermail/wadarc/. And Finally...The WADARC List is hosted by QTH.NET run by amateurs for amateurs. It is funded by K3TKJ and the generous contributions of the users. While the Mailman system does not insert ads into posted messages, the owners of QTH.NET do hope that users of the mailing lists feel able to give financial support to them. Without user support, they would not be able to maintain the 600+ mailing lists. Once a year, a draw is held to raise funds. The prize last time was an Icom 756PROIII transceiver! Details of how to donate to QTH.NET can be found on the FAQ list http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.html. Updated - 15/10/2007 |
